MJ’s Top Moments #6 The Shrug

Setting: 1992 Game 1 of NBA Finals, Chicago Stadium, Chicago Bulls vs. Portland Trailblazers.

“The Chicago Bulls’ Michael Jordan’s three-point explosion in Game 1 of the 1992 NBA Finals against Portland is easily one of the greatest performances I’ve ever seen. As he made his sixth straight, he winked directly at Mike Fratello and me in the broadcast booth and held his palms up in a shrug, as if to say, “What can I do?”- Marv Albert

After reaching the pinnacle of his craft, he craved for more. A year later he showed that the NBA Finals would be his personal playground for years to come. But these Finals didn’t look like a walk in the park, the Trailblazers had been a dominant team in the West for years with Clyde “The Glyde” Drexler leading the way. It was a big stage and MJ would play so well that he would even impress himself.

Jordan has started countless of games off hot, but this was different, it was the Finals. He would shine brighter than any star, and he set the tone that this series would be a quick one. Jordan Party of three your 2nd Finals ring and MVP is ready.

You heard Marv. Did you see that look? 39 points, 6 threes IN ONE HALF. That is a career night for most NBA players, but for MJ that was simply warming. So the next time you do something so good or so spectacular you don’t know how to celebrate, be like mike and just…shrug.
